Coming from a traditional Sicilian family, admitting I had an addiction was like speaking a foreign language. In our world, family reputation is everything. Admitting one has an addiction is considered weakness—especially the kind you can’t see or fix with hard work—it isn’t something one speaks about. When my parents found out I was using, they didn’t know what to do. Their answer was to send me away—first to Italy, then to Germany—as if putting an ocean between me and my addiction would somehow solve it. But addiction doesn’t respect borders. I brought the chaos with me. What I really needed was compassion and connection, but in our culture, it was all about silence, survival, and upholding family honor.

For years, I lived in darkness—trapped in the cycle of insanity, institutions and incarceration, chasing drugs just to feel alive. From Scholarships for college baseball, state champion, walking in the family business, having the world in the palm of my hand to being homeless, paranoid, and broken. I burned bridges, manipulated those who cared about me, and lost myself in the process.

Drugs and the lifestyle hijacked my mind. I was constantly looking over my shoulder, seeing threats that weren’t there, trusting no one, not even myself. Behind the bars weren’t just a prison-they were blinders. Beyond them, life disappeared into darkness sinking deeper into shame and hopelessness.

But everything changed when I encountered the story of Christ as a personal invitation. I heard the whisper of grace. Jesus didn’t turn away from my mess. He stepped into it. He saw me at my worst and still called me worthy of love, healing, and purpose. At that moment I had the greatest realization that I had manifested a life beyond my wildest nightmares. A lifetime of my decisions, my choices, my behaviors and my actions landed me where I was at. When I came to Christ that is when the process had just begun, and the veil was lifted. It was going to take dedication, discipline, commitment and consistency. A weight was lifted because it was clear I needed something greater than me. I didn’t know how to ask for help but when I did chains were broken and I was set free.

It wasn’t easy, and it didn’t happen overnight. But through faith, community, personal development, and daily surrender, I’ve been transformed. I’ve traded chaos for peace, deception for truth, and addiction for freedom. I share my story not to glorify the pain, but to magnify the power of redemption.
